English version | I nostri Bovari del Bernese hanno partecipato ad esposizioni nazionali, internazionali e a raduni di razza ottenendo sempre la qualifica di eccellente (la più alta).
Quindi è chiaro che rispondono ai requisiti che lo standard impone e possono essere definiti “corretti” sotto questo punto di vista.
Per quanto riguarda la salute tutti i riproduttori sono esenti da malattie ereditarie e sono stati radiografati ufficialmente per la displasia dell’anca e del gomito (sono quindi stati giudicati idonei alla riproduzione) e vengono sottoposti regolarmente a visite di controllo.
Forse questo potrebbe sembrare abbastanza, ma per noi non è sufficiente.
Oltre alla bellezza e alla salute, bisogna porre attenzione anche al carattere (non dimentichiamo che vivere con un soggetto con un pessimo carattere può risultare estremamente difficile). Ecco perché ci preoccupiamo dell’ambiente in cui i cuccioli nascono e vivono per i primi mesi, degli stimoli a cui vengono sottoposti e alla loro intensità, ecc… perché è in questo periodo che si gettano le basi del carattere che avranno in futuro. Chiaramente ancora molto dovrà essere fatto dal nuovo padrone che se li porterà a casa, ma in questo modo le difficoltà che incontrerà saranno minori.
Quanto si dice del Bovaro del Bernese riguardo al suo carattere è essenzialmente vero: é un cane socievole, coccolone, "innamorato" della sua famiglia (tutta!), paziente con i bambini....non a caso riesce a conquistare facilmente anche le persone più distaccate!
Il Bovaro del Bernese è il cane giusto per noi?
Portarsi a casa un Bovaro del Bernese non è poi così complicato: s’individua un allevatore che ci piace, si aspetta il tempo necessario perché il piccolo possa lasciare la mamma, si copre con un telo il sedile dell’auto e si parte !
Niente di più semplice.
Ma siamo consci di ciò che stiamo realmente facendo?
Quel batuffolo lanoso e simpatico che ci osserva tra un sonnellino e l’altro, presto ci farà vedere di che pasta è fatto. Chiaramente è ancora un cucciolo e, come un piccolo d’uomo, sarà curioso e allo stesso tempo spaventato, ma quando avrà preso confidenza con noi e con il nuovo ambiente… ci scapperà di sicuro qualche marachella: la pipì su un tappeto, un vaso rovesciato e la relativa terra sparsa ovunque, il giornale strappato (ma solo quello non ancora letto! Chissà perché!?), le scarpe rosicchiate, i calzini spariti, ecc…le solite cose dei cuccioli di tutte le razze.

Presto crescerà.
Ma è proprio qui che viene il bello!!!
La caratteristica che distingue questo cane è la ricerca continua del contatto.
Ecco perché per vivere con un Bovaro del Bernese bisogna voler proprio BENE ai cani. Lui non si accontenterà, quando rientriamo a casa di una banale carezza sulla testa, magari data un po’ sopra pensiero togliendoci il cappotto. E no, il Bernese pretende di più, tipo un abbraccio bello e vigoroso con tanti complimenti e frasi piene di vesseggiativi.
State certi che se non sarete voi a darglielo… verrà lui, e forse un po’ grossolanamente vi piomberà addosso dimostrandovi tutto il suo sincero affetto.
Probabilmente qualcuno potrà riuscire a sopportare la "festa di ben tornato", credendo di aver concluso il tutto con due minuti di coccole, ma… TROPPO SEMPLICE!
Una volta che finalmente ci siamo seduti arriverà tutto scodinzolante mettendo il suo "sederone" sul nostro piede e, infilando la testa sotto il nostro braccio, inizierà a darci dei vigorosi colpetti con il muso per essere accarezzato. Se non dovesse ancora essere riuscito nel suo intento, passerà a far ricadere il suo piedone sul nostro ginocchio più e più volte.
Vuole la nostra attenzione, il calore delle coccole, la conferma dai nostri occhi che gli vogliamo bene come lui ne vuole a noi e, anche se il nostro affetto è un po’ di meno rispetto al suo… si accontenterà ugualmente.
Se ci alziamo ci seguirà anche solo con lo sguardo. Se ritardiamo a tornare, verrà a controllare che sia tutto ok. Sarà sempre la nostra ombra.
Credo sia chiaro che un Bovaro del Bernese ha bisogno della sua famiglia, non solo per mangiare o fare la canonica passeggiata, ma soprattutto per amare e sentirsi amato.
Se cercate un cane indipendente, un po’ schivo e solitario… cambiate razza: è l’unica soluzione!
Ma se cercate qualcosa più di un semplice cane, un essere che vi scaldi il cuore anche nei momenti peggiori… il Bernese è la scelta giusta, non a caso la maggioranza delle persone che hanno avuto il piacere di vivere con uno di loro, spesso mi dice:
"Il mio bernese non è un cane, ma un cristiano"
E io tutte le volte sorrido perché quel cane ha trovato la sua famiglia ideale.

| English version | Our Berners have participated to national and international shows, as to breed-meetings getting always the highest evaluation (excellent). That means that they respect the breed requisite the standard imposes and concerning this point of view they can be considered “ correct”. Concerning health all the reproducers are free of hereditary diseases and where officially x-raid to certificate the absence of hip and elbow dysplasia (they were declared fit to reproduce) and they are regularly submitted to vet control visits. This could appear enough, but not for us. Besides beauty and health, it needs also to watch out for the character (we mustn’t to forget that live with a subject with a bad character can result extremely difficult). That's why we worry about the environment in which the puppies were born and they live during the first months of their life, about the of the stimuli to which they are submitted and to their intensity, and so on....... because it’s in this period that the bases of the character they will have in the future are fixed. Clearly a lot must still be done from the new owner that bring them home, but in this way the difficulties he/she will meet will be less. All said about f the character of the Bernese Mountain Dog it’s quite true: it is a sociable dog, it loves to be cuddles, it fall "in love" of his/her family (all), patient with children....Berners easily conquer also more detached people!
IS THE BERNER MOUNTAIN DOG THE RIGHT DOG FOR US?
Take home a Bernese mountain dog is not so difficult: you find a breeder you like, you wait the right time until the puppy can leave its mother, you cover the seat with a cloth and let’s go! Nothing easier! But are we really aware about what we are going to doing?
That woollen and nice wad looking for us between an short sleep and the other one, will shortly show us its real character. Sure it is still a puppy and, as a little boy-man, it will be curious and at the same time frightened, but as it will have taken familiarity with us and the new environment.....some pranks will surely happen: wee on the carpet, a spilled pot and the ground inside spread all around, the teared off newspaper (but only the one you haven’t still read! Who knows why) the nibbled shoes, the disappeared socks, and so on... the usual things puppies all breeds do.
Don’t worry! It will grow soon. But it’s now the best begins!!!
The characteristic that distinguishes this dog is the continuous search of contact. That’s why to live with a Bernese mountain dog you must really LOVE dogs. He/she won't be satisfied when we go back home of a banal caress on the head even given a bit absent-mindedly taking off the coat. No the Berner pretends more, a beautiful and vigorous embrace with so many compliments and sentences full of term of endearment. You can be sure that if you won't be the one showing him/her all your love....he/she will come, and perhaps a bit coarsely will fall on you showing you all its sincere love. Someone will probably be able to bear "the welcome party " believing having concluded everything cuddling him/her for two minutes , but...TOO SIMPLE! Once that finally we sit, he/she will arrive wagging the tail and putting his/her “big bottom” on our foot and, inserting the head under our arm, he/she will begin to give us some vigorous taps with the muzzle to be caressed. If he/she doesn't have reached his/her intent yet, he/she will put his/her “big paw” on our knee more and more times. He/she wants our attention, the heat to be cuddled, the confirmation from our eyes that we love him/her as he/she loves, even if our affection is a bit less then his/hers....he/she will be satisfied. If we stand up he/she will follow us also only with the eyes. If we delay to come back, he/she will come to check that everything is ok. He/she will always be our shade.
I believe both that is clear that a Bernese mountain dog needs his/her family, not only to eat or to make a walk but above all to love and to feel himself/herself be loved.
If you look for an independent, bashful and solitary dog..... change breed: it’s the only solution!
But if you look for something more than a simple dog, someone that heats you the heart also in the worse moments...the Bernese is the right choice, the majority of the people that have had the pleasure to live with one of them, often tell me: “My Berner isn’t a dog, he/she is human”.
And I every time smile, because that dog has found his/her ideal family.
